The artist book 'Makulering' [Shredding] by Kirsten Christensen will be published on 27 August 2024. The artist book has been created in collaboration between the artist and HEIRLOOM – center for art and archives in connection with the exhibition Mother Always Has A Mother.
The book is based on Christensen's work Shredding (2023) and combines text and photography. In 'Makulering' she revisits and reworks her earlier work Idyll from 1978, which was based on a photo of Christensen herself as an infant on her mother’s arm. This work has followed her throughout her practice and today she feels the need to confront and do away with it. For apparently, idyll is not the whole story.
Kirsten Christensen is a visual artist and ceramic artist. In her works, she often takes her own life story and situation as a starting point, and is socially indignant, rebellious and constantly reflective.
The book launch takes place at Gl. Holtegaard on occasion of Kirsten Christensen's solo exhibition Du bliver selv gammel [You will grow old too].
At the reception, Kirsten Christensen will read texts from the book and a glass of Gl. Holtegaard’s own cider will be served.
The book is 56 pages, organized by Åse Eg and printed by Narayana Press.
The book costs DKK 100 and can be bought in selected bookshops.
The publication is supported by the Statens Kunstfond and the New Carlsberg Foundation.
